Donald A. Joop, age 76, of Borup, MN passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a long courageous battle with heart problems.

Don was born march 5, 1934 to Charles and Gena Joop of Borup. He was educated in area schools. A farmer at heart, he farmed the family farm and continued this until his retirement. Don married Gloria Holman on November 9, 1973 at the Horace Lutheran Church in Horace, ND. Both were very active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Ada, MN, where Don was both baptized and confirmed.

Don enjoyed morning coffee time with friends, attending various events in neighboring towns, and going to auction sales. He loved visiting with people and had a good sense of humor. Don had a special hobby of collecting pig ornaments.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Raft of Ann Arbor, MI, and Jason Joop of Ypsilanti, MI; a brother, Charles (Muriel) Joop of Borup; one nephew, Greg Joop of Borup; his mother-in-law, Florence Holman of Horace; and a brother-in-law, Dennis (Cathy) Holman of Horace.

Don was preceded in death his dear wife, Gloria; his parents; and one niece, Karolyn.


Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ada. Visitation took place on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ada from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 pm. Interment was at the Ada City Cemetery.
