Donald John Helland, 96, formerly of Hendrum, Minnesota, died December 10, 2018 at the Benedictine Care Community in Ada, Minnesota.

Donald was born September 9, 1922, to John and Alma (Bowhall) Helland. He graduated from Hendrum High School in 1941. Donald took over the family farm near Hendrum. Donald's farming career involved sugar beets and grain. In 1952 Donald was united in marriage to Eva Mae at the home of Dwain and Wilma (Punky) Ness. Donald retired from farming in 1977 and moved to Floyd Lake and later to Dilworth. In 2013, he and Eva moved to Mission Court in Ada.

Left to morn his passing are Eva, his wife of 66 years, two children, Roger Helland of Moorhead and Diane Helland (Peter Olson) of San Diego, California, grandson Cory Helland of Red Lake Falls, granddaughters Kalyn and Taryn Olson of San Francisco Bay area, sister-in-law Punky Ness, and Tutty (Frank) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Bernice, Fran, Margaret, Irene and Lucille, brother-in-laws, Tuffy (Clarence) Johnson and Dwain Ness, and sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith United Church (PO Box 73, Ada, MN) or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Memorial Service: 1:00PM Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Mission Court Chapel at the Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.

Visitation : One hour before the service at the chapel.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
