Obituary

Donald Axdahl, age 81, of Frazee, Minnesota, died Monday, August 30, 2010, in Innovis Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Donald Roy Axdahl was born June 23, 1929, the son of Oscar and Tura (Hansen) Axdahl in Mora, Minnesota. Donnie grew up on a farm with his family and attended school in that community. As a young man Donnie entered the United States Navy and served on the USS Block Island Aircraft carrier during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1955 he began a trucking carrier with Daggett Trucking of Frazee, Minnesota. On June 12, 1955, Donnie was united in marriage to Olive Stene at Wild Rice Lutheran Church near Twin Valley. The couple made their home in Frazee where they raised their family and continue to live to the present time. He was an over the road trucker hauling mostly livestock for over 35 years until an accident forced him into retirement. After his retirement in the early 1990's, he was kept busy helping his children with many different building projects. He also enjoyed traveling, grooming his yard and tending to his large garden.

Donnie was a member of Wild Rice Lutheran Church, the Block Island Aircraft Association, the Detroit Lakes VFW, the Detroit Lakes American Legion and the Eagles.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Olive Axdahl of Frazee, MN; sons, Darwin (Debbie) Axdahl of Frazee, MN, Orwin (Sandy) Axdahl of Box Elder, SD and Ross Axdahl of Warren, MN and a daughter, Glenda (John) McMichael of Plano, TX; a brother, Leo (Sharon) Axdahl of Devils Lake, ND; sisters, Eleanor Lerol of Vadnais Heights, MN and Kay (Marley) Winans of Bemidji, MN; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11:00AM in the Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley. Visitation will be Friday from 5PM until 7PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Officiating will be Pastor Chad Peterson with Jolee Habedank serving as organist and Karen Bergstrom as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Darwin Axdahl, Orwin Axdahl, Ross Axdahl, John McMichael, Leo Axdahl and John Olson. Military honors will be provided by the Lakes Area Veterans Color Guard and the Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley.
