Dolores Bruggeman, age 81, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, passed away July 12, 2010 at her apartment in the Arbor Park Assisted Living Center in Moorhead.


Dolores Hart was born July 29, 1928 in Bemidji, MN to Frank and Hazel (Hull) Hart. Dolores grew up on a farm east of Waubun, MN. After graduating from Waubun High School, she moved to Mahnomen and went to work for the Mahnomen Bakery. On June 16, 1949, Dolores married Arthur Bruggeman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. They made their home in Mahnomen and were blessed with three sons: Mike, Mark, and Jim. Art passed away in 1975. Dolores also worked in the local dentist office, but spent most of her years working for the Mahnomen County Soil Conservation District until her retirement.

Dolores was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. She enjoyed going uptown for coffee and pie at the Red Apple. In the summer, she took pride in her beautiful flower beds: red geraniums, pink impatiens and petunias surrounded her house and garage. She was an avid photographer, her grandchildren and family were among her favorite subjects. She also enjoyed visiting her kids at the lakes, spending time with family, and lunches and shopping with her sister, Monna.

In October of 2005, Dolores was forced to sell her home of over 50 years and moved to Moorhead in order to be closer to the medical facilities and dialysis treatments that she needed. As hard as it was for her to leave Mahnomen it did give her the opportunity to be closer to her family and her sister, Monna. She was able to attend more of her grandchildren's events. She didn't always completely understand the games, but that didn't matter. She just truly enjoyed getting out and watching. Dolores always looked forward to and enjoyed the many visits over the years of her dear cousin Deon and her husband Bud, who made countless trips from the Chicago area to visit. Dolores fought a courageous four and a half year battle with her kidney disease.

Dolores is survived by three sons; Mike (Deb) of Moorhead, Mark (Nancy) of Crookston, MN, and Jim (Dorothy) of Moorhead; eight grandchildren; and her sister Monna Honek of Moorhead.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Art; granddaughter, Heather; and her parents Frank and Hazel Hart.

A special Thank You to the caregivers at the Arbor Park Assisted Living Center in Moorhead; they treated our Mom like she was their own Mom.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Mahnomen.
