Obituary

Dickie "Dick" Lee Pickrain, 77, passed away Monday, August 25 at his home in Twin Valley. He was born in New York Mills in 1948.

Dick graduated from Osakis High School in 1966 and in 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he worked on missiles and nuclear weapons, achieving the rank of Specialist Fifth Class. He was stationed in Buffalo, NY and Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1973.

After returning from the military, Dick opened a TV sales and repair shop on Main Street in Perham, in the present-day True North building. He continued his work as an electronics technician until he retired, working in the Iron Range, Fargo, and Mahnomen.

Dick had a natural talent for numbers and technology. He won a regional math contest as a child and enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He also had hidden talents for art and indoor horticulture, and was a lifelong fan of Minnesota's sports teams.

While in Perham, Dick liked to play recreational softball and basketball with his buddies on the Horner's teams. He was particularly proud of the time he dribbled between Joe Senser's legs and slipped a layup past Ted Brown during an exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings at Hauer Gymnasium.

Dick had a quick wit, an infectious laugh, and a kind disposition. He is survived by his children Stephanie (Cliff) of Columbus, OH, Jesse (Shanna) of Minneapolis, Justin (Chenoa) of New York Mills, and Jason of New York Mills; brothers Larry (Pat) of Detroit Lakes, Bruce of Mahnomen, Kevin (Therese) of Apple Valley, and Rodney (Deborah) of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren Josh, Baileigh, Jaxon, and Beatrice; and four great grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Ann, his parents Lee and Delores, his brother Myron, and his sister Sheila (Gary Henstorf).
