Desteny Thompson's Obituary
Desteny Thompson, age 32, of Twin Valley, MN, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN, surround by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Desteny Hope Thompson, along with her identical twin sister, Alyssa, was born on September 13, 1981 in Crookston, MN. "Desy" as her family knew her, battled a congenital heart disorder her entire life. She was raised in Twin Valley but had many stays in and out of health care facilities. She attended Norman County East High school where she was very active with her class. Desteny enjoyed animals of all types but especially horses. She loved riding horseback and over the years made many great riding friends. She also liked helping her grandparents on their farm and working in the gardens. Desteny had a great relationship with her family and enjoyed spending time with friends. She had a special bond with her sister and truly treasured her niece and nephews: Dawson, Aubrey, and Noah. She loved being around children and was known to many neighborhood kids as Auntie Desy. Desteny loved to laugh. She was a strong, determined, young woman who touched so many lives around her.
Desy is survived by her parents, Denise (Keith) Halverson of Gary, MN; her twin sister, Alyssa (Louis) Pagel of Twin Valley; her grandparents, Dennis and LaVonne Thompson of Twin Valley and Carol Halverson of Ada; two uncles: Duane Thompson of Twin Valley and Daniel (Shelly Ann) Thompson of Ogema, MN; her aunts, DeVaun (Tony) Cline of Fargo, ND and Debbie Houston of Hendrum, MN; two nephews: Dawson Thompson, and Noah Pagel; one niece, Aubrey Dobmeyer; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her great grandparents: Berdien and Ida Thompson and Victor and Martha Gress, Sr.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, with Pastor Gary Lundberg officiating. Providing music was Sarah Mickelson and Jacob Nelson. Pallbearers were Duane Thompson, Danny Thompson, Zach Thompson, Louis Pagel, Greg Thorson, and Darren Buckle. Honorary bearers were Dawson, Aubrey, and Noah. Visitation was Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley.
Burial was in Gary Lutheran Cemetery, Gary, MN.
