Derrick (Ducky) Leonard Duckstad, 36, of Crookston, MN, died Friday, April 3, 2020, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND, due to multi-organ failure. Derrick was born on December 8, 1983, to Russell DeMarais and Marge (Haverkamp) DeMarais in Thief River Falls, MN. Derrick was adopted by James and Roberta Duckstad of Fertile, MN, at a young age. He attended and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School.

Ducky loved sports, especially wrestling and football. He went to state for wrestling his junior year of high school. He was a die-hard Raiders fan his entire life, whether they were winning or losing. Ducky also loved music, especially Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Eminem, etc. He liked going to concerts with his friends. His living room had T-shirts plastered on every wall. He couldn't wait until fair time to go buy more t-shirts. He also had a love for watching movies, and could repeat every word from his favorite movies by heart. He loved many "classics" from the 80's and 90's.

Ducky could talk to you about history forever; he was especially interested in WWI and WWII. He was always full of questions and full of information to share to anyone who would listen.

Derrick is survived by so many family and friends that will miss him dearly, his parents; James and Roberta Duckstad, Fertile, MN; sisters, Teresa (Rob Denjo) Duckstad, Warroad, MN, Amanda Duckstad, St. Paul, MN, and Brittany Lewis Ash, Red Lake, MN; brothers, Jared (Lea) Duckstad, Thompson, ND, Robert Duckstad, Bismarck, ND, Tyler Duckstad, Fertile, MN, Jacob (Katie) DeMarais, Twin Valley, MN, and Ben (Alex) DeMarais, Twin Valley, MN; close friends, Jacque (Jim) Flynn, Fertile, MN; Danny (Brooke) Hassel, Crookston, MN, and Espo Espinoza, Grand Forks, ND; also, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews that will miss him as well.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents; Russell DeMarais and Marjorie (Haverkamp) DeMarais; grandparents, Andy and June Crane, and Clifford and Agnes Duckstad; uncle, Donald Duckstad; aunt, Donna Solie; and his best friend in the world Tyrel Smith.

Due to public health concerns with the coronavirus called COVID-19, a memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fertile, MN.
