Derien Jackson-Flores, age 26, of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, July 19, 2025, as his residence.
Derien was born on June 28, 1999, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Elizabeth Jackson Flores and Darin Stone. He spent his early years in White Earth, where he attended school and was recognized for his intelligence and academic success. A proud member of the Ojibwe community, Derien embraced his Native American heritage and cherished time spent ricing, leeching, and practicing traditional crafts. His artistic spirit was evident in the beautiful drawings and Ojibwe artwork he created. Over the years, Derien lived in various communities, including Ebro and Rice Lake, but most recently made his home in Mahnomen. There, he built lasting friendships and was known for his warm heart and uplifting presence. Though he faced challenges with mental health, Derien was determined to bring light to those around him. He had a natural way of making people smile, offering kindness, laughter, and unwavering support to family and friends alike. He especially loved spending time with his friend, Haleigh Garbow. Derien was deeply loved by those who knew him. He had a gentle soul, a caring nature, and a creative mind that left an impression on everyone he met. Whether spending time with family, sharing his art, or simply being present, Derien made an impact on others lives which will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his father, Darin (Trisha Simon) Stone Sr.; his siblings: Darin Stone Jr., Koda St. Clair-Stone, Dayton Colegrove, and Abigale Bellanger; special sisters, Gracie Sanchez and Teanna Anderson; grandparents: Donna Stone, Pat Aspinwall, Tony Warren; his Godmother, Tara Lynn Libby; and one aunt, Jody.
He was left this world and was welcomed into the next by his mother, Elizabeth; grandparents: Darlene Jackson, Pat Flores, and Curtis Stone; and an infant sister, Jasmine Stone.
Traditional Services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the White Earth Community Center, White Earth, MN. All-night Wake Services will begin Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 5:00 pm with a ceremony at 7:00 pm and continue until the time of the service on Wednesday.
