Obituary

Dennis Fjeld, age 73, of Twin Valley, MN, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 24, 2017, in Alamo, TX, where he spent the winter months.

Dennis Ray Fjeld was born November 18, 1943, the son of Charles and Bernice (Hirchert) Fjeld in San Bernardino, CA. As a young boy, the family moved to Ada, MN, where Dennis was active in band, track and wrestling. After high school, he joined the Airforce Air Guard and was stationed in Great Falls, MT. While in Great Falls, Dennis met the love of his life, Karen Berg. They were united in marriage on January 25, 1964, at Sunnyside, WA. Karen and Dennis made their home in Sunnyside for a time before moving to Longview, WA, and later North Dakota. They were blessed with three children; Nathan, Colette, and Carla. Dennis trained as a journeyman electrician and the family lived in various places in North Dakota and Minnesota, before settling in Twin Valley. He spent his career as Union Electrician, proudly belonging to the Local IBEW #1426. Dennis was also the soundman for "The Backwoods Boys" band for many years. He retired when he was 63 years old but always remained busy. He and Karen owned and operated D & K Upholstery and Dennis built many beautiful wood projects for friends and family. They have spent the past 10 winters in Alamo Paradise RV Park in Texas while continuing to make their home south of Twin Valley.

Dennis was a "jack of all trades". With a big heart, Dennis never hesitated to help others in need. He was a true craftsman, woodworker and mechanic. Over the years, he built and remodeled several of their homes. Dennis enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, particularly hunting. He was known to tackle any project, even overhaul an engine or two. In the grandkids words, "There was nothing Grandpa couldn't fix". With strong family ties, Dennis cherished any amount of time spent with his family, especially his precious grandchildren. He and his dear wife, Karen, were nearly inseparable for their 53 years together. Dennis appreciated a friendly visit and a good cup of coffee with family and friends. He also loved technology and remained current with all the newest gadgets.

Dennis had always been active in the church and graciously served on many boards and committees. He was previously active at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and most recently a member of Zion Lutheran in Twin Valley. Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post #431 and also held memberships with the Lions and other various other community groups over the years.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen of Twin Valley; one son, Nathan (Deborah) Fjeld of Coon Rapids, MN; two daughters, Colette (Duane) Thompson of Twin Valley and Carla Wilebski of Fertile, MN; 12 grandchildren: Nick, Brittany, Tom, Bethany, Jordan (Fiancée, Katie Ross) Kaley (Simon), Jarod, Zach, Justin, Brady (Nicole), Logan and Levi; three great-grandchildren: Peyton, Logan and Baylor Ray; one brother, Jerry (Darlene) Fjeld of West Fargo, ND; three sisters: Bonnie (Marvin) Merkens, Diana Woltjer both of Twin Valley, and Charlene (Dennis) Brandt of Ada; brother-in-law, Darrell (Kim) Berg of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Bernice; infant sister, Sandra; brother-in-law, Marlyn Woltjer; his in-laws, Laura and Floyd Berg; and many aunts, uncles and extended family.
