Obituary

Delores "DeeDee" Luverne (Hamre) Grant, 86, of Fertile, MN, died on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.

She was born on July 10, 1928, to Benjamin and Josephine (Christianson) Hamre on a farm near Beltrami, MN. Delores was baptized and confirmed in Scandia Lutheran Church, rural Beltrami. She attended White Dove Country School near Beltrami, and the Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston, MN, majoring in music (piano and choir).

After graduating, she and her roommate moved to San Francisco, CA, where she worked in a Brokerage Company. Over the years, DeeDee had several secretary and telephone operator jobs. In May of 1959, DeeDee was united in marriage to William "Bill" Grant in Sacramento, CA. They travelled to many states and eventually bought the Idaho Press Newspaper Company in Wallace, ID. Dee Dee handled the circulation and advertisement, while Bill was the editor. Together, they published the "Jubilee Edition" that was later placed in the Library of Congress.

They moved back to Benicia, CA in 1965, and DeeDee was employed by Exon U.S.A. as PBX operator and receptionist. She was also responsible for conference calls, appointments, and arranging travel arrangements for employees. In 1978, Bill died and in 1987, DeeDee moved to Fargo, ND. She worked as a receptionist for the Fargo Forum for two years, when DeeDee moved to Ada. She worked at the REM Group Home, in Ada, for the next 10 years. While in Ada, DeeDee attended Grace Lutheran Church, where she participated in the choir and bible study. She also sang with the "Inspiration Music Group". DeeDee entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in November of 2006. Over the past eight years she has met and enjoyed many friends.

DeeDee used her musical talents to encourage many over the years, especially those in nursing homes. She was a loving and kind person who was stylish and taught many life lessons to those around her.

DeeDee is survived by one son, Paul (Linda) and two grandchildren, Lauren and Evan, Mt. Laurel, NJ; two brothers, Philip (Janet) Hamre, Moorhead, MN; and Dean (Sandy) Hamre, Andover, MN; one sister, Barbara (Rodney) Oistad, Fertile; several nephews and nieces.
