Obituary

Delores M. Bush, age 73, of Naytahwaush, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at MeritCare Health Systems in Fargo, North Dakota.

Delores was born June 15, 1936 in White Earth, Minnesota, to Andrew and Margaret (Mitchell) Bush. She attended school in Naytahwaush and then a boarding school in Flandreau, South Dakota. After her schooling, Delores moved back to Naytahwaush and worked at the Rodwell Nursing Home and was later employed at the sewing factory in Naytahwaush for several years.

Delores chose to further her education by attending the Vo-Tech in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota for cooking. After receiving her certificate, she began a 28 year career as a cook at the school in Naytahwaush. Delores retired from the school in 2003, but not from cooking. She was known by many for her baked beans, bread and pickles, giving to family and friends, especially the breads. She like gardening and enjoyed canning the many fruits of her labors. Her front porch was well known for her many scented colorful floral arrangements. Delores also enjoyed traveling with the church to camp meetings. She and Laurie Brown cooked together for many years at the camp meetings in Naytahwaush. When Delores wasn't cooking, she could often be found with friends and family, shopping, playing Canasta, going to rummage sales, painting ceramics, solving word search puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, Delores fostered many, many children and was "grandma" to many children in the community. She always opened her home to anyone who was in need. Delores could be found singing to her grandchildren and attending their sporting events as they grew. She is gone from our sight, but not our hearts.

Delores is survived by five daughters: Bette (Bernard) Tibbetts, Pamela (Tony) Keezer, Tammy (Tony) Wadena, Monica (Boogie) Perrault, all of Naytahwaush and Margaret (Keith) Bush of Mahnomen, Minnesota; three sons: Amos (Kileen) Weise of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jay Weise, of New Mexico, and Delbert (Renita) Spider of Mahnomen; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Leonard Bush, Merle (Ginny) Bush, both of Naytahwaush, and Joseph (Rose) Bush of Mahnomen. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene Brown and Leona Sehlstrom; and one brother, Melvin Bush.
