Della Kroshus, age 77, of Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, in her home surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Della Hitner was born May 6, 1932, the daughter of John and Susie (Keppler) Hitner in Mary Township near Borup, Minnesota. Della grew up in Lake Alice, Minnesota, and attended school there. Della was united in marriage to Kenneth Kroshus on May 15, 1950, in Webster, South Dakota. Della and Kenneth moved to Borup in 1972 and she spent the rest of her life in the Borup and Ada area.
Della loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. She spent a lot of time going to rummage sales and finding deals on toys for them. Della also loved playing bingo. When the bingo caller would call out "N-37" Della would often yell out, "That's my age." Della took many of her grandchildren along to play bingo with her. She also was a great salesperson. Della sold raffle tickets for the Felton Field Days drawing for years. Buying one ticket was never an option. You had to buy a whole book, she would say. Della loved to travel and drive around the area. Her heavy foot sometimes led to her getting pulled over, but she rarely got a ticket. She knew many people and would always run into people she knew during her travels.
Della is survived by two daughters, Darlene Ness and Debbie Gordon both of Ada, MN and a sister, Rose (Pete) Forbes of LaPorte, MN; nine grandchildren, Neil (Gloria) Miller, Marcus (Shelley) Gordon, Bryan (Nicole) Ness all of Ada, MN, Shaunna (Christopher) Johnson of Holdingford, MN, Kevin (Amy) Miller of Maple Lake, MN, Eric (Rachel) Ness of Washington, DC, Jason (Jamie) Miller of West Fargo, ND, Aaron Ness of Los Angles, CA and Patrick Ness of Moorhead, MN; 14 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Payton and Macey Gordon, Harley, Wyatt, Jesse and Beau Johnson, Taylor, Charlee and Jackson Miller, Dereck LaFriniere, Randy Hisgun, Tatum and Elijah Ness and many nieces and nephews.
