David Tastad, age 88, of Twin Valley, MN, died Saturday, December 26, 2015, in his home.
David Truman Tastad, the son of Iver and Minnie (Thompson) Tastad, was born October 4, 1927, in Ada, MN. He grew up near Faith, MN, where he attended country school. On December 25, 1949, David was united in marriage to Lorraine Skauge in Gary, MN. David worked as a carpenter in Fargo, Casselton and Grand Forks, ND, as well as Crookston and various cities throughout Minnesota. Early in their marriage the couple made their home where ever David's work took him, spending much time in Fargo and Crookston. Together, they were blessed with one son, Ronald. In 1963, they moved to a farm near Twin Valley and in the fall of 1966 the family moved into Twin Valley to make their home. Over the years, David worked as a finish carpenter on many area building projects including UND, St. Luke's, Bethesda Hospital, and on several missile bases. Although he slowed down in the 1990's, David never really retired and continued doing finishing work with local contractors to keep himself busy. David loved being outdoors, especially working in the woods. He was often found cutting wood, tending to the garden or simply going for a walk with the dog. David loved his dog and had a soft spot in his heart for all animals. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting as well. David cherished his grandchildren and was so proud of each one of them. David was a humble hard working man who touched the hearts of many.
David is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine; one son, Ronald (Loretta) Tastad of Perham, MN; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Ian) Kimball of Maple Grove, MN, Lynette Tastad of Fargo, ND, Brian Tastad of Twin Valley, MN, and Diana Tastad of St. Paul, MN; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Emily Kimball, and a sister, Olga Stundahl of Twin Valley, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joyce and Iner; and five sisters: Ida Jones, Della Garret, Inez Johnson, Marie Davis, and Judith Tastad.
