Watch David's Funeral Service

David Sweep, age 61, of Bejou, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN.

David Alan Sweep was born on September 5, 1961 in Owatonna to Arthur and Lorraine (Dahl) Sweep. The Sweep family moved to a farm in Bejou where David made his forever home. He attended elementary school in Bejou until 6th grade when he transferred to Mahnomen High School, graduating with the class of 1979. Following his graduation, David continued to work on the family farm, raising dairy cattle and small grains. In the early 2000s, he started a new career at the Community Co-Op in Twin Valley, MN, working alongside his sister. In 2020, he moved to Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN due to health concerns.

David enjoyed filling his free time with sports. He enjoyed telling his nieces and nephews all about his adventures with the Mahnomen Football and Wrestling Teams throughout high school. Later in life he was a member of the Mahnomen and Twin Valley bowling leagues, as well as the Fosston and Mahnomen softball leagues. When he wasn't playing sports, David was proudly cheering on the MN Vikings and Michigan Wolverines Football teams. His other hobbies included throwing darts, playing cards or participating in the Bejou Lions Club. Spending time with family was important to David, especially when everyone was gathered together to enjoy a good home cooked meal. One of his favorite gatherings was that of July 4th, a tradition he continued after the passing of his parents. He was very involved in his niece's and nephew's lives. He enjoyed babysitting them (often hyping them up with pop and candy so he could have some as well) and attending their many sporting events. He also liked to spend time at the family lake cabin on Straight Lake in Osage, MN. David will be greatly missed for his contagious laugh, friendly personality and mischievous tendencies.

David is survived by his siblings, Debra (William) Scott, Darrell (Nancy) Sweep, Karen (Richard) Tadych, Karol (Wesley) Mills, and Kathy (Stacy) Stene; many special nieces and nephews; and other extended family members. David was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; twin brother, Arthur Henry Sweep Jr.; uncles and other extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou.
