David W. Stone passed away September 28, 2011, at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, AK.
Dave was born February 17, 1942 to Theodore R. and Margaret (Poppler) Stone, at their rural home near Lengby, MN.
He attended grade school in Lengby and graduated from Fosston High School in 1960. Dave obtained his degree in Education from Bemidji State University and started his teaching career in Erskine, MN, in 1964. On July 16, 1966 Dave married Marilyn Clausen in Mahnomen, MN. Their life together was blessed with four wonderful children. In 1970, Dave took the position as an Elementary Principal for the Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public Schools. After 28 years, he retired from the district in 1998, but continued to work in the educational field as a Special Ed Paraprofessional for BRIC. In 2009, Dave and Marilyn moved to Wasilla, AK, to be closer to their grandchildren. That way Dave could watch them play their sports and live near the beautiful mountains that he so loved.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 45 years; children: Shari (Mike) Qual, Karin (Dan) Preisler, Loni (Jeremiah) Jirik, and David (Lena) Stone. Their life was further blessed with the addition of 11 grandchildren: Zack, Macaylee, and Maddison Qual; Theo, Issak, KayDea, and Analiseah Jirik; Devin, Tyler and Lucas Stone. Two brothers, Mike (Donna) Stone, and Merlin (Dottie) Stone, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first granddaughter, Ashay Alizabeth Qual; his parents, Ted and Margaret Stone; and his sister, Agnes.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2 pm at the Waubun High School Commons Area. Services will be led by Pastor Kristy May and Reverend Jim Clausen with music provided by musicians from Circles of Faith United Church of Christ.
Inurnment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen, Minnesota.
