David Franklin Shavinsky was born in Knoxville, TN, on April 29, 1945, the son of Isaac and Thelma (Sumpter) Shavinsky.  He grew up in the Minneapolis, MN, metro area where he attended school.  Following his high school graduation with the Class of 1963, David entered the US Navy.  He proudly served and was honorably discharged in September of 1965.  After returning to the Minneapolis metro, David studied at the Dunwoody College of Technology.  Over the years, he worked as a commercial draftsman.  In 1983, David was united in marriage to Pamela Edwards and to this union, four children were born.  The couple made their home in the metro for a time before moving to Aitkin, MN.  David continued to live in Aitkin until moving to Mahnomen in 2022.

Some of David's favorite hobbies included watching sports, coin collecting, and going to the casino.  One of his favorite vacation places was his time share in Las Vegas, NV, where he enjoyed Blackjack and Poker.  You could also find him at Canterbury Park watching the horse races.  Above all, he was a proud father and grandpa.  David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be missed by many.

David is survived by two daughters, Virginia Shavinsky and Ivy Shavinsky both of Brainerd, MN; two sons, Daniel also of Brainerd and Andrew (Emily) of West Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Juniper and Linden Jensen; one sister, Deloria Shavinsky-Clay of Bristol, TN; nieces and nephews: Matt Hedlund, Merissa Wagner, Delora Wade, Jacob Tielen, and Jessie Smith.
