Obituary

David Sethney, age 68, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, in Bob Stump VA Hospital in Prescott Valley.

David Bruce Sethney was born February 17, 1940, the son of Henry J. and Wilhelmina (Scholes) Sethney at Twin Valley, Minnesota. Dave was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. He attended school in Mahnomen and Twin Valley, Minnesota. Dave enlisted in the United States Navy on January 16, 1958, retiring in November of 1978. On September 11, 1967, Dave was united in marriage to Juanita "G" Hall in Mexico. Upon retirement from the Navy, he began working for an electrical company, retiring in September of 1995 as an Assistant Project Manager. Dave and Juanita moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona in September of 1995 where they have continued to live.

During military duties, he was assigned to the following Major shore Assignments: NAS OAK HARBOR, WA; NAVISTA SAN FRANCISCO, CA, CBC PORT HUENEME, CA, NAVISTA LONG BEACH, CA and NAVISTA SAN DIEGO, CA. The following Major Overseas Assignments: MCAS IWAKUNI, JAPAN (TWO TOURS); NAVSTA YOKOSUKA, JAPAN; NMCB CAMP HOOVER, VIETNAM, (THREE TOURS) and NAVSTA SUBIC BAY, PHILIPPINES. Other foreign ports Dave visited were KOREA, HONG KONG BBC, TAIWAN, THAILAND, OKINAWA, GUAM and SINGAPORE. While Dave was a member of the United States Navy, he was awarded the following decorations: combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (with three bronze stars), Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy/Marine Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (three Bronze Stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Navy Meritorious Unit commendation and Combat Seabees (Gold) Badge.

Dave was a member of the Prescott, AZ VFW Post #541 Life Member, Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431of the American Legion, Prescott Valley, AZ Elks Lodge #330 (30 year member), Prescott, AZ Moose Lodge #319, Fleet Reserve Association and The Retired Enlisted Association.

Dave is survived by his wife, Juanita, of Prescott Valley, AZ; two step-daughters, Bette (Eric) Kill and step-grandson, Matthew, all of Brisbane, Australia, and Anna (Zeph) Phillips and step-grandson, Kevin, of Costa Mesa, California; a step-son, John Hall of Columbus, Ohio and step-granddaughter, Casandra Hall of Parkersburg, W VA; a brother, Richard (Carol) Sethney of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Diane Aranas; an uncle, Clayton Sholas of Ada, MN; a nephew, Steven (Julie) Sethney and their children, Garrett and Whitney of Loveland, OH; a niece Teresa and her daughter, Alexis and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Allan Sethney and a sister, Shirley Sethney.

A Graveside Memorial Service was held at 10:00 AM, September 6, 2008, in Twin Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
