David Mattinen, age 75, of McIntosh, MN, formerly Tulaby Lake, rural Waubun, MN, was called to Heaven on Monday, November 23, 2015, in Vibra Hospital of Fargo.
David Warren Eric Mattinen was born December 19, 1939, the son of Hjalmar and Celia (Maunu) Mattinen near Cloquet, MN. He attended school in that area, graduating from Esko High School with the class of 1957. Dave was united in marriage to Arlene Hella in 1960. The couple made their home in the Cloquet area where Dave worked at Conwed Corporation in research and development until severe allergies forced him to change careers. Dave then attended barber school and opened the 5th Avenue Barber Shop in downtown Duluth. He hung his barber pole at that location until he and Arlene purchased Tall Pines Resort on Tulaby Lake in 1976. Dave opened the Twin Valley Barber Shop in the early 1980's and loved to share stories along with local news and sports with his customers. He truly loved his time with the people of Twin Valley and the other customers that came from miles around.
Dave had an intense love of the outdoors including hunting and fishing as well as all Minnesota sports. He was an avid follower of all the local and regional sporting activities. Dave enjoyed spending time with friends and family, but he truly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Dave is survived by Arlene, son Greg (Renee Kilde) of Fargo, ND, daughter, Sherry Peterson of Waubun, MN and son Ryan (Robyn) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Dallas, Allison, Emma and Sarah, two nieces and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey and Rudy; sisters, Arlene, and Vera and nephew, Harvey John.
Memorial Service: Monday, November 30, 2105, at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home of Twin Valley with a Time of Gathering one hour prior to the service.
