David Koppy's Obituary
David Koppy, age 81, of Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in his home.
David Koppy, one of 12 children born to Joseph and Louise (Janisch) Koppy, was born July 14, 1935, in Mahnomen, MN. The majority of his life was spent in the farming community of Mahnomen. However, from 1968 to 1972, David helped his father take care of a team of show horses in Cloquet, MN. A job he thoroughly enjoyed! His family returned to Mahnomen and David lived with his parents in Welle Apartments. Following his mother's death in 1989, David decided to get his own apartment, living independently with only some assistance. He remained in Mahnomen and moved to his current home at Lakes Homes in 2008 until his death.
Coming from a large family, it is no surprise, he loved being around people. David liked to keep busy and was a hard worker, helping out whenever possible. He attended the DAC, both in Mahnomen and Ada, for many years doing various jobs and activities. David spent countless numbers of hours trapping gophers and riding his bike collecting aluminum cans. He also enjoyed old westerns, listening to old time music on his vinyl records and a good game of cards. Another important facet of David's daily living was his faith. He was a regular attendee of Sunday morning Mass. Even though life had brought him many challenges, David never lost his good attitude. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
David is survived by four brothers: Valentine (Barb) of Green Valley, AZ, John (Roseann) of Grand Forks, ND, Timothy (Ann) of Beaverton, OR, and Joseph of Kila, MT; two sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Merrick of Las Cruces, NM, and Dorothy (Nick) Kovash of Garrison, ND; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; and five siblings: Eugene, Beverly, Celestine, Lois and William.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 1, 2017, at the St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
