Watch Darlene's Funeral

Darlene Ann Nodsle was born November 26, 1931, the oldest child born to Henry and Thea (Olson) Nodsle.  At a young age her family moved from Argusville, ND, to a farm East of Ulen, MN.  Growing up, Darlene helped on the farm, tended to her younger siblings and attended school in Ulen.  Following her graduation from Ulen High School with the Class of 1950, she worked as a clerk for Red Owl Grocery.  On October 4, 1952, Darlene was united in marriage to Owen Braseth and they were blessed with three children.  Together they worked on the farm side by side, raising dairy cattle and grains.  In addition to helping with the daily chores, Darlene tended to the children, kept busy baking, cooking, gardening, and sewing.  When the children became older school age, she also began working at Viking Manor Nursing Home as a cook.  A job she thoroughly enjoyed for many years.  In 1985, they retired from farming and moved into Ulen.  The couple continued to make their home in town until Owen's death last December when Darlene moved to Viking Manor to live.  Following a few days in the hospital, her family has precious memories of her last waking moments lovingly interacting with her four-month-old great-granddaughter.  She died peacefully Tuesday, August 2, 2022, surrounded by family at the Sanford Health Systems, in Fargo, ND, having lived to the age of 90.

Loving, caring, hospitable, generous, and hard worker are all words that could describe Darlene.  She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and later the great-grandchildren.  Darlene had a great faith that was evident in her daily living and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  When you stopped by for just a visit, she insisted on making sure you were fed, and you never left hungry.  Darlene was a wonderful cook and baker known for her cookies, breads and the potato salad she made for so many years for the annual Ulen Turkey BBQ.  In addition to cooking and feeding all of Ulen, Darlene was also very active with Bethlehem Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and Circle and also the VFW Auxiliary.  She gave so much of her own time, talents and treasures and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Darlene is survived by one son, David (DeEtt) Braseth of Ulen; two daughters, Lisa (John) Austinson and Deb (Kerry) Walton, all of Ulen; six sisters: Lorraine Nelson, Carol Meyer, Beverly Schultz, Diane (Waldo) Syverson, Donna (Eugene) Tangen, and Ardith (LeRoy) Peterson; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Braseth and Gwen Nodsle; as well as 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Owen; one grandson, Chris Tangen; one brother, John Nodsle; five brothers-in-law: Donald Nelson, Nathan Meyer, Lyle Schultz, Byron "Buddy" Braseth and Schuyler (Orpha) Braseth.

Blessed be the memory of Darlene Braseth.
