Danny
Busby
Mar 21, 1952 — May 30, 2023
Hitterhal
Danny Busby, 71, of Hitterdal, MN, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Danny Leo Busby was born March 21, 1952, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Loyal and Doloris (Hogenson) Busby. He grew up in Hitterdal and graduated with the first consolidated class between Ulen and Hitterdal. Following high school, Danny attended Bemidji State University from 1970-1972. He then joined the North Dakota Air National Guard and honorably served for 6 years. In 1978, Danny was united in marriage to Penny Wenner and together they raised four children. The couple later divorced and Danny met Lori Rikhus. Danny and Lori were married on April 26, 1991, and together they added a son and a daughter to their growing family.
Danny enjoyed life on the family farm and later he farmed with his brother, David. The brothers dissolved their partnership and Danny began working as a carpenter with his best friend, Ryan Malakowsky. After some time, Danny went to work part time at Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, which led to a full-time opportunity and title of Boiler House Foreman at the beet plant. His declining health forced him to retire in 2011 after 21 years of dedicated employment.
Danny was an honest, well-respected, hard-working individual who was known to be a bit curious and a bit stubborn. He had a great sense of humor, had his opinions, and knew how to debate with the best of them. In his spare time, Danny enjoyed fishing and spending many summers at Elk Horn Resort with his family. They would have annual Busby family reunions and he was the official fish fryer and grill master. Another favorite pastime was playing Poker with family and friends. Many laughs and memories were made as they usually played Dealer's Choice because everyone had their favorite! Danny truly loved his family and all things in nature, especially watching the birds and tending to the flower gardens. In his younger years, he played softball and was a lifelong MN Twins and Vikings fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Danny is survived by his wife, Lori, of Hitterdal; daughters: Melissa (Tom) Johnson of Rochester, MN, Krista (Junaid) Siddiqui of Eagan, MN, Branda (Justin) Anderson also of Rochester, Paige Busby of St. Paul, MN; two sons, Brett (Casey) Busby of Sabin, MN, and Patrick Busby of Thompson, ND; nine grandchildren plus one on the way; seven sisters: Sharon (Gene) Willgohs of Henning, MN, Pat Anderson of West Fargo, ND, Linda Rydjord of Vacaville, CA, Mary Karim of Duluth, MN, Gail (Tom) Spillum of Rollag, MN, Jeri Sakrismo of Twin Valley, MN, and Maureen (David) Van Den Einde of Bejou, MN; one brother, David Busby of Fargo, ND; one brother-in-law, Breck Wilson of Dilworth, MN; nieces, nephews, four orange cats and extended family on Lori's side.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Paula Wilson; four brothers-in-law: Jerain "Jiggs" Anderson, Mike Rydjord, Raj Karim, and Linn Sakrismo; and a niece, Carrie Krumwiede.
