Daniel Voje, age 87, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly Ada, MN, died Friday, November 11, 2016, in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley. Daniel Sylvester Voje was born December 30, 1928, at home to George and Anna (Sorenson) Voje. He was born in rural Hendrum, MN, and attended country school. As a young man, Dan helped on the family farm, wherever the family resided. On November 27, 1952, Daniel was united in marriage to Iona Hinrichs, only to leave for basic training 10 days later. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, Dan returned to Ada, MN, and began working at Larson Motor Co. In 1964, the couple began farming the family farm Iona's grandfather homesteaded in 1890. Dan continued to work at Larson's until the early 70's when he and Iona took over the dairy operation from her father. The couple farmed and milked cows until the Spring of 97, when they retired and sold the herd. Although the cattle were gone, Dan never really retired from the farming way of life. He was up early and busy past sundown, as there were always fields to check, farmers to visit and back roads to be traveled. Dan continued to help Steve on the farm until his body prohibited him. Iona died in June of 2009 and he has made his home the last few years at Twin Valley Living Center. Over the years, Dan and Iona were foster parents to many teens from Norman County. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving as a church council member in addition to his memberships with the American Dairy Association and the VFW Post #7557. Dan also spent many years on the Pleasant View Township Board as chairman. He was easy going and good hearted with a sense of humor like no other. He enjoyed people and spending time with family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dan is survived by a son, Steven (Tammy) of Beltrami, MN; three daughters: Danette (Wayne) Gwin and Brenda Wagner, both of Ada and Laurel Voje-Duvall of Montevideo, MN; eight grandchildren: Aaron (Sheyna) Strommen, Jeremy (Rachel) Strommen, Ashley (Brian) Liska and Andy Wagner, Kayla, Alisha and Brandon Voje and Nettie DuVall; two step-grandchildren, Greg Strommen and Kyla (Jesse) Peterson; six great-grandchildren: Cassidy, Cooper and Clint Strommen, Maya and Morgan Liska and Brianna Clayton; two step great-grandchildren, Dillon and Katie Strommen; two brothers, Harold (Joanne) Voje of Rochert, MN, and George Voje of Fargo, ND; two sisters, Marvella Epema of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Audrey Geray of Hillsboro, ND; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; in-laws; sons-in-law, Jim Wagner Jr. and Mark DuVall; and siblings:Robert, Norman, and Arlene Harshman. Blessed be the memory of Daniel S. Voje.
