Daniel Norris, age 82, of Mahnomen, MN died Friday, September 11, 2009 at Innovis Health System in Fargo, ND.
Daniel Norris, the youngest child of Frank and Aggie (Pike) Norris, was born April 06, 1927, at home in Twin Lakes Township, MN. He grew up in the Naytahwaush community and attended school. As a young man, Dan enlisted in the Unites States Navy where he proudly served his country during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to the Naytahwaush area. He worked for several area farmers near Mahnomen and Naytahwaush. Dan loved to work in the woods and spent many years as a logger on the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota. He also spent a few years living with family in California in the mid-1970's. Dan made his home with his niece, Beverley, for many years before he entered the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Dan cherished the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. In his younger years, he crafted beautiful shawls and baskets for family and friends. He was always very intelligent and loved to read books in his spare time. Dan greatly enjoyed spending time with children and had a very close bond with many of his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He will be missed by all of them.
Dan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Wilbur, Henry, George, Jack, Albert; and four sisters: Haddie, Vivian, Marie, and Alvina.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation took place one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday. Interment was at Samuel Memorial Cemetery in Naytahwaush, MN.
