Obituary

Daniel Goodwin, age 80, of Bemidji, MN, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Sanford Hospital, Bemidji, MN.

Daniel Earl was born December 26, 1937, the son of Thomas and Bessie (Hill) Goodwin.  He grew up in the Rice Lake area where he attended Jackpine Country School.  As a young man, Dan helped his father with handyman jobs and working in the woods before joining the United States Navy.  He honorably served his country and upon his discharge, Dan returned to the Jackpine area.  He worked at Larson Lumber in Bagley, MN, before starting his own logging business with Lawrence Johnson.

Daniel was united in marriage to Marilyn LaFriniere on July 3, 1965.  They made their home south of Bagley for many years where they opened their home to several foster children. Dan and Marilyn always had the best gardens and they would can and freeze the fruits of their labors, having fresh homemade food all winter.  Over the years, Dan worked for White Earth Public Waterworks, co-owned Angelina's Supper Club, plowed snow and most recently purchased and sold vehicles, machinery and equipment.  Marilyn passed away in October of 2003 and Daniel sold their home and moved to a home near Zerkel before moving to Bemidji in March of 2018.

Daniel loved music, especially gospel hymns, country and old-time rock and roll, he played it 24/7!  He looked forward to the yearly county fair where he would take in the Demo Derby, Gospel Night and treat himself to a footlong corndog.  Dan enjoyed playing cards, going to Bingo, watching the Game Show Network and sporting events.  He also liked traveling to Crookston and Erskine to see his buddies, testing to see how fast his newest vehicle could go and spending time in the great outdoors either fishing or taking in the beauty on his 4-wheeler.  Dan had a big heart and would help anyone he could, but he was also a fun-loving jokester who enjoyed raising heck and giving out nicknames to everyone he knew.  Many hours were spent telling stories, laughing, and teasing one and all.  His entire family was near and dear to him and his dogs were like his children.  He will be missed by many and will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Daniel is survived by five brothers: Marcell (Janice) Goodwin of Bagley, Darrell (Joyce) Goodwin of Pine Bend, Cleve (Deb) Goodwin of Bagley, Larry Goodwin also of Bagley, and Alvis Goodwin of Ebro, MN; one sister, Denice (Vernon) Iverson of Bemidji, MN; sister-in-law, Gloria Goodwin of Bagley; brother-in-law, Eugene Iverson also of Bagley; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Randy Boe; and special caregiver, Janice Murray.  In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Dan was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clinton Goodwin; sisters, Louella Iverson and Bev Midbo; and sister and brother-in-law, Marceline and Chuck Halvorson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley, MN.  Visitation will be held Sunday, August 5, 2018, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. at Faith Hill Assembly of God Church.
