Obituary

Daniel Arens, age 55, of Moorhead, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

Daniel Alan Arens, the son of Joseph "Butch" and Bernice (Lutmer) Arens, was born on December 18, 1962 in Mahnomen, MN.  He grew up in Mahnomen and attended Mahnomen Public School.  When Dan was a teenager, his father passed away, but he remained active in school and sporting events, especially football, wrestling, and track.  After graduating with the class of 1981, Danny went onto vocational college in Pipestone where he studied to be a meat cutter.  Upon earning his degree, Dan was immediately offered a job with Hornbachers in Moorhead.  He was united in marriage to Jenalle Cramer and together they were blessed with two children, Kayla and Patrick.  The couple later divorced. When his children were young, Danny lived in Hawley, MN before moving to Moorhead and then Hutchison, MN.  He later returned to Mahnomen to make his home.  Danny spent most his career at Hornbachers, proudly working there for 17 years, earning the position as smokehouse manager.   He also worked at the Ulen Locker and at the Red Apple Café for a time.

Danny struggled with alcohol addiction for many years of his life, but always held on to hope for better days to come.  He loved the outdoors and spent time both hunting and fishing.  Danny was especially proud of his 1998 Camaro. He enjoyed going for a joy ride or simply hanging around visiting.  He truly cherished his lifelong friends who always stood by his side.

Danny is survived by his children, Kayla (Nick) Potter and Patrick, all of Fargo, ND; his mother, Bernice Arens of LaMoure, ND; three sisters: Mary (Bruce) Heggen of Park River, ND, Nancy (Brian) Benshoof of Mankato, MN, and Margie (Mike) Janke of Fullerton, ND; three aunts: Audrey Reisdorfer, Honey (Tony) Lonnmen, and Mary Alice Lutmer; eight nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Butch; and one sister, Gail.
