Cortland "Corky" Ashmore, age 87, of Ulen, MN, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Cortland James Ashmore was born October 21, 1927, to Irvin and Hannah (Rikhus) Ashmore in Maple Grove Township, Becker County, MN. "Corky" as he was known by everyone, grew up on the family farm near Ulen. He attended country school in that area through the tenth grade. As a young man, Corky worked on the farm with his father. On November 20, 1948, Corky was united in marriage to Avis Bickel on her parents' farm near Ulen. The couple made their home in the Ulen area and continued to farm. In 1961, Corky was employed by the Ulen grain elevator where he later became Assistant Manager. He retired from that position in 1992. After his retirement, Corky continued his involvement in farming by working for area farmers.
Corky thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and truly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Corky is survived by his wife of 66 years, Avis of Ulen, MN; two sons, James (Wanda) Ashmore of Ulen, MN and Barry (Brenda) Ashmore of Clear Lake, MN; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Beverly) Ashmore of Moorhead, MN and a sister, Irma Hendrickson of Ulen, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Clinton, Leo, Leslie and Waldo.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
