Watch Corrine's Funeral Service

Corrine Stene, age 78, of Fertile, MN, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN.

Corrine Diane Burkhard was born January 4, 1941, the daughter of Gust and Ruby (Sannan) Burkhard in Twin Valley, MN. She began her schooling in Twin Valley but spent the majority of her school years at Ada Public School. As a young lady, Corrine was united in marriage to Arvid Stene on November 9, 1956, in Ada, MN. The couple made their home in Rapid City, SD, for a time before Arvid was stationed to Barrous Point, AK. While he was in Alaska, Corrine returned to Ada to live and then as a family, they lived in Belleville, IL, for eight years. Following his honorable discharge, they moved back to the Fertile community where they raised their family. Corrine was employed at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home for many years in different capacities. Arvid passed away in 1993, and Corrine remained in Fertile. In 1998, Corrine married Harvey Stene and they lived together in Fertile until the time of her death.

Over the years, Corrine spent countless hours fishing, gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. She and Harvey also enjoyed traveling to many different places and attending all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. Corrine was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She served for many years as a foster grandparent. She will be deeply missed by many.

Corrine is survived by her husband, Harvey, of Fertile; children: Vicki Brun, of Detroit Lakes, MN, Robin (Faye) Stene of Halstad, MN, Jay (Kathy) Stene also of Detroit Lakes, and Rhonda (Roger) Bennefeld of Gary, MN; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margie Lett of Forest Hill, CA; niece, Tawnia Kaiser of CA; step-children: Sue Stene of Princeton, MN, Nannette (Bob) Hartfield of Bowlus, MN, Kevin (Deb) Stene of Sioux Falls, SD, and Rochelle (Brad) Lundberg also of Princeton; four step grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Arvid; a son, Shane; a granddaughter, Brittney Ann Bennefeld; son-in-law, Mike Brun and a niece, Teira Arionus.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 19, from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 PM at Concordia Lutheran Church. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Varnes Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fertile, MN.
