Obituary

Cora Christenson, age 99, Fosston, MN died on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at First Care Medical Services in Fosston.

Cora Nelson was born September 1, 1907 to E.D. and Ingaborg (Rekve) Nelson at Scarville, IA, where the family lived on a farm. In 1914, Cora moved with her family to McIntosh, MN, and attended Lone Tree School, District #177, southwest of McIntosh, MN, through the eighth grade. As a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper for area neighbors. At the age of twenty, on November 20, 1927, Cora married Peter Christenson at Winger. Together they lived on her family farm and raised their family of one son and two daughters. Peter died October 2, 1954. She then moved to McIntosh, where she worked in the laundry and organized activities at the McIntosh Manor and also cooked at the school in Winger, MN. After her children were grown, Cora moved to Minneapolis, MN, to take care of two small children, Margaret and James Domholt, due to the serious illness of their mother. Following their mother's death, Cora stayed and continued to attend to the children until they were grown. After living in Minneapolis for ten years, she moved back to McIntosh, and once again was employed at the McIntosh Manor and also cooked for the McIntosh and Winger schools. Cora moved to the Cottage Avenue apartments in McIntosh in 1980, where she stayed until moving to First Care Medical Services in December of 2003.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger and the Bethel and Calvary Ladies Aid. Cora had been active in the Sletten Homemakers, the American Legion Auxiliary and really enjoyed playing with the senior citizen "Kitchen Band" of McIntosh. Never one to be idle, she loved crafting, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, word searches and reading. At the age of ninety-seven she even picked up a new hobby of painting on velvet.

Her two daughters, Hazel Trogstad of Fosston, and Elmyrna Kaupang of Winger, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren survive Cora. Surviving also are the two children that she raised, Margaret Domholt, Albuquerque, NM and James Domholt, Chaska, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Peter; son, Marvin; grandson, Bryan Kaupang; brothers, Edwin and Sam; and sisters, Mary, Hilda and Emma.
