The exciting moments of pregnancy have turned to sorrow and heartfelt loss with the death of little Conrad James Smith Jr. on October 4, 2010.
Conrad James Smith Jr., infant son of Mavis Giard, of Crookston, MN, and Conrad James Smith Sr. of Red Lake, MN, was born and died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Conrad Jr. is survived by his parents; two brothers, Aiden James DeGroat and Stanley Donnell Smith; one sister, Genevieve Redeagle Smith; his grandma, Loretta Giard of Mahnomen, MN; his great grandparents: Josephine Benais of Red Lake, Mavis Bush of Naytahwaush, MN, and Joseph and Rose Bush of Mahnomen; four aunts: Iris (Wallie Lang) Giard of Naytahwaush, Mariah Giard of Mahnomen, and Claire Giard of Mahnomen, and Cheryl Lynn Smith of Redby, MN; three uncles, Sony Porter, Thomas "Big Top" (Meeka Oppegard) Giard and William "Chill" (Kristine) Giard, all of Mahnomen; as well as several great aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Marion and Gary Smith Sr. and Thomas Giard; uncles, Jesse Giard and Gary Smith Jr.; great grandparents: Delores and Herbert Smith, Albert Benais, and Helena Giard; and a cousin, Jasmine Giard.
Traditional Native American funeral services for Conrad Jr. were held Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11 am at the Old Community Center in Naytahwaush, MN.
Visitation began Monday, October 11th at 5 pm with a ceremony at 7 pm and continued until the time of the service on Tuesday, all at the Old Community Center in Naytahwaush.
Burial was in the Free Gospel Alliance Cemetery in Naytahwaush.
