Colleen Hamernik, 84, of Ulen, MN passed away at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Colleen Joyce Holt was born to Alex and Jessie (Harmer) Holt in Langdon, ND on January 30, 1939. She grew up on a farm and graduated at Calvin, ND in 1957. She graduated from Humboldt Airline School and then worked at Archer Daniels Midland Grain Company, as a WA operator. Colleen later moved to Fargo, ND, and worked at Bell Telephone Company for a time, before returning to Langdon, where she was employed at the REA. While at a dance at the Rancho in Waubun, MN, Colleen met the love of her life, Jerry Hamernik. The couple was united in marriage on November 19, 1960, and were blessed with two sons, Roger and Rodney. Jerry and Colleen farmed southwest of Flom, MN, raising oats, barley, wheat, and milking cows. After Jerry passed away in 1982, Colleen continued to operate the farm with her boys. In 1987, she started working at the Twin Valley Living Center, as a dietary aide, retiring after 21 years. In March of 2007, Colleen moved into her Ulen home where she has lived since. Her joy was waiting for family to come, playing cards, and her pinochle game every Wednesday with the girls at the Nordic. Colleen was a long-time active member at Aspelund Lutheran Church, rural Flom, MN. Colleen was an avid sports fan, keeping up with the Ulen-Hitterdal Spartans, Norman County East – Ulen Hitterdal Titans, Minnesota Vikings, and Minnesota Twins. She especially enjoyed attending all of the games that her boys, and later her grandchildren, played. She was honored with the title of "Fan of the Year" for the Ulen Hitterdal Spartans. Above all, Colleen treasured her family and will be missed by them all.

She is survived by her sons, Roger Hamernik of Twin Valley, MN, and Rodney (Elizabeth) Hamernik of Ulen, MN; grandchildren: Matthew, Aubrey, Alexa, Jaydan and Alex; one sister, Jessie DeJarlis of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Irene Klemetson, Georgie Fuchs, Marlys Hamernik, Helen (Marvin) Slette; one brother-in-law, Ed (Arlene) Hamernik; and many nieces and nephews.

Colleen was proceeded in death by her parents Alex and Jessie Holt; her husband Jerry; and four sisters: Evelyn, Maggie, Mary and Casey

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, with a prayer service starting at 6:30pm, at the Aspelund Lutheran Church rural Flom, MN.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Aspelund Lutheran Church.
