Cody Prestegord, age 17, of Gary, MN, died Monday, February 12, 2024, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Cody Martin Prestegord, the youngest son of Stacey and Verona (Hovelson) Prestegord, was born on July 7, 2006, in Fargo, ND, and from the very beginning, he brought joy and light to his family's life. He was baptized on November 8, 2006, at Zion Lutheran Church and later confirmed on July 12, 2020, with Ness Lutheran Church at the Gary Pines, a place that was very fitting for him.
Throughout his life, Cody attended Norman County East school, where he immersed himself in various activities and left a lasting impression of kindness on those around him. He was deeply involved in the Future Farmers of America team, serving as its secretary, and also held the position of Student Council secretary. Additionally, Cody participated in Knowledge Bowl and the high school choir. In 2023, he was honored to be crowned the SnowDaze King, a testament to his popularity and involvement in his school community.
Agriculture was more than just a passion for Cody; it was his way of life. He dreamed of pursuing a career in agriculture and spent countless hours on the family farm, driving tractors, and tending to the land. His pride and joy were evident in his cherished Steiger tractor, which he cared for with unwavering dedication. Even in his leisure time, Cody could be found playing Farm Simulator on his gaming console. He embraced the outdoors wholeheartedly, whether he was hunting or riding four-wheelers and snowmobiles. Beyond his love for farming and the outdoors, Cody was a devoted Star Wars fan, finding joy and excitement in the epic saga's stories and characters. His talents also extended into the kitchen, where he enjoyed preparing meals and treats for his loved ones. During his meal prep, and while driving, he could be found singing and jamming out to country tunes.
Above all else, Cody treasured his family. He was a devoted brother, son, and uncle, finding joy in spending quality time with his loved ones. Whether they were sharing a meal, watching movies, or engaging in friendly card/board games, Cody cherished every moment spent in their company. He took great pride in supporting his sister at her sporting events and doting on his nieces and nephews, who adored him beyond measure.
Cody will be remembered for his kindness, his warmth, and his practical nature. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact he made on the lives of those around him will be everlasting. His legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Cody is survived by his loving mother, Verona Prestegord; siblings: Trent (Katrina), Dalton (Angela), Brock, and Carigen Prestegord; niece and nephews, Ashton, Logan, Lane, Sadie "Bugs", and Carson; longtime girlfriend, Emma "Bean" Phiefer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
