Obituary

Clinton Swenson, 89, Fertile, MN died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.

Clinton Sjoholm Gustav Swenson was born at home on May 28, 1924, near Fertile, the son of Per Elof and Hannah (Sjoholm) Swenson. He was baptized on August 2, 1924 and later confirmed on September 12, 1937 in St John's Lutheran Church in Fertile. MN. He grew up and attended Giant Oak Country School in Bear Park Township. After his school years, he worked at Bergeson Nursery and on the family farm. Clinton met the love of his life, Marian Larson, in July of 1949, at the Polk County Fair in Fertile. He recently attended his 89th Polk County Fair. Clinton and Marian were married on December 18, 1949. They were blessed with four children, Linda, Loretta, Philip, and Monica. Clinton worked at the Rindal locker plant for about 10 years and continued to farm. He served as the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery sexton, and on the Church Council. He also served as 4-H adult leader for the Bear Park Beavers 4-H Club and treasurer of the International Order of the Good Templers. His passion in life was farming and the dairy (Holstein) animals. He also enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, driving tractor and combine, woodworking, and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clinton is survived by his wife, Marian, three daughters, Linda (Leland) Raaen, Loretta (Mike) Hitchen, both of Fertile, Monica (Larry) Wieers, Argusville, ND, one son, Philip (Mary) Swenson, Fertile, 11 grandchildren, Chad (Kari) Hitchen, Loren Raaen, Matthew (Lana) Hitchen, Nicholas Swenson, Brandon (Elizabeth) Conkins, Eric (Jamie) Swenson, Nathan (Krystal) Swenson, Lynae (Ben) Sather, Stacy (Nathan) Stuhaug, Breanne (Shane) McCarthy, and Brittany Wieers, 17 great grandchildren, Maren, Caleb, Ryan, Michael, Tyler, Tysen, Christian, Blake, Hunter, Kimberly, Katrina, MacKenzie, Kaylee, Kora, Carter, Logan, and Olive. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, David (Bonnie) Larson, and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Bormes and Norma Swenson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and sisters-in-law, August (Clarine), Carl (Marie), and infant brother Harry, several other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and three nephews.

Funeral service: 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile.

Visitation: 5-7 PM Monday, with a 7PM prayer service at the church.

Burial: St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fertile.
