Obituary

Clayton Sholes, age 93, of Ada, Minnesota, died Saturday, September 03, 2011 at Viking Manor in Ulen, Minnesota.

Clayton LeRoy Sholes was born July 30, 1918 the son of Leonard and Deana (Olson) Sholes on the family farm near Ada. Growing up, Clayton attended school in Ada. As a young man, he worked on the farm with his father and brothers. In 1942, Clayton was inducted into the Unites States Army. While serving his country, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Medal. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Clayton returned to Ada where he continued to farm with his brothers. He was well known for raising Clydesdale horses and sold many teams to the Anheuser Busch Company over the years. In 1971, they sold the farm and he moved into Ada. He continued to be employed for farmers in the Ada and Perley, Minnesota, communities for many years.

Clayton was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ada. In addition to his passion for farming, Clayton's favorite past times included breaking and training Clydesdale horses.

Clayton is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, September 9th at 11:00 AM in Grace Lutheran Church, Ada. Visitation was one hour before services at the church on Friday. Officiating was Pastor Matt Williams with Cammie Sorenson serving as organist and Monica Winter serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Gary Groslie, Roland Johnson, Ronald Fullerton, Dick Sethney, Duwayne Larson, Myron Moteberg, Art Gilbertson, Jason Gilbertson and Ryan Gilbertson.

Burial was in the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada.
