Clayton Roering, age 59, of Twin Valley, MN, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 18th, 2012, under the loving care of his family.
Clayton Mark Roering was born on August 18th, 1952, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of Milton and Ione (Gandrud) Roering. He was baptized into his Lutheran faith on October 19th, 1952, at Richwood Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, MN. At the age of two, Clayton moved with his family to Twin Valley, MN. He was confirmed on May 14th, 1967, at Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, MN. Prior to his death, he transferred his church membership to Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom, MN. Clayton graduated from Twin Valley High School with the class of 1970.
From 1971-1985, Clayton worked for Thornton Construction, Twin Valley, MN, achieving the position of foreman at a young age. After recovering from back surgery, Clayton established Roering Woodworking in 1986. His business continued through the time of his death, with the support of his long-time employee and friend, Brett Gulseth.
On August 30th, 1975, Clayton was united in marriage to Yvonne Erlien at Zion Lutheran Church. With great pride, Clayton began building their family home in rural Twin Valley in 1978, where he lived for 33 years. Together, Clayton and Yvonne had two children, Erin and Paul.
On August 26th, 2007, Clayton and Cindy Skansgaard were united in marriage at the Glensheen Mansion, Duluth, MN. They treasured most their private moments together. Clayton's dream of building a home for Cindy became a reality because of the kindness and generosity of family, friends, and strangers. His union with Cindy also symbolized his love for her two children, Nicci and Luke.
From an early age, Clayton had a gift of carpentry. He loved refurbishing old items and building custom pieces. He took pride in his work and was a perfectionist in all he did. Clayton enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets where he had an eye for those "special treasures," especially his beloved lanterns.
Clayton will be remembered for his fun-loving nature and big smile. He saw the good in everyone and always had time to visit. He especially cherished his moments with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Even during the most challenging times of his illness, Clayton had a positive attitude and felt his life had been truly blessed. The memory of how Clayton lived will remain an inspiration to all.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children, Erin, Fargo, ND, and Paul, West Fargo, ND, Nicci Skansgaard (Jeff Lunde), Flom, MN, and Luke Skansgaard, Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren, Hadlie, Wylie, Katherine, and Kase Lunde; his mother, Ione Roering, Moorhead, MN; brother, Rodger (Chris) Roering, Twin Valley, MN; sister, Lynee (Lee) Gnoinsky, Moorhead, MN; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation was held at the Aspelund Lutheran Church, rural Flom, Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Celebration of Clayton's life beginning at 7:00 pm with Pastor Don Walker officiating. An outdoor Memorial Service was held 1 mile south of Flom, Minnesota on the east side of the road, Thursday May 24th at 2:00pm. Officiating was Pastor Al Brooks with special music provided by Monica Winter and Mike Klemetson. The eulogy was read by Rod Syverson. Urn bearers were Erin Roering and Paul Roering. Honorary urn bearers were Nicci Skansgaard, Luke Skansgaard, Jeff Lunde, Hadlie, Wylie, Katherine and Kase Lunde.
Inurnment was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Flom, MN.
