Obituary

Dr. Clayton A. Anderson, 81, of Ada, Minnesota, died Sunday,
February 14, 2010, at MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Clayton Allen Anderson was born August 14, 1928, at Virginia, MN, the son of Anders and Clara (Haugen) Anderson. As a young boy he moved with his family to rural Bemidji, MN. He attended Bemidji High School, Bemidji State College and graduated from Chicago College of Optometry in 1951.

He received honorable discharge from the Minnesota Nat'l Guard in 1949 and from the
United States Marine Corp Reserve in 1951.He served with the United States Marine
Corp during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank as Captain. Clayton began his practice of Optometry in Ada in July l953. He had his practice in Ada and Twin Valley for many years before retiring. Clayton was united in marriage to Lila Braaten on August 10, l958, at Concordia Church in Ross, MN. They raised two adopted sons, Mark and Paul.

Clayton was involved in numerous community activities and organizations over the years including: Jr. Chamber, Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Lions, and a Fire Arms Safety Instructor for 50 years. He served on the Ada City Council for 18 years and the Ada Fire Dept for 28 years. He was a Life Member of the Ada American Legion, Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on the Ada Veterans Honor Guard. He was a member of the El Zagal Shrine, and a charter member of the Heart Of The Valley Golf Course. As a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church, Clayton served on the Board of Trustees and taught Sunday School. He also served as a Scoutmaster for the Ada Boy Scouts. Clayton was presently a member of the Ada Scholarship Foundation and a life member in the Minnesota Optometric Assoc. and the American Optometric Assoc.

Clayton is survived by his wife Lila, two sons, Mark of Ada, and Paul (Kim) of Perham, MN, six grandchildren: Maren (14), Lauren (12), Lula (11), Clayton (9), Kjerstin (5), and Bjorn (3); one brother, Dr. O. Paul (Antoinette) Anderson, Atascadero, CA, four sisters, Arlene Suydam, Flemington, NJ, Connie (Warren) Jacobson, Hamel, MN, Sharon (Stretch) Klotzbach, Chisholm, MN, and Karen Anderson, Minneapolis, a brother-in-law. Frank Harrington, Richfield, MN, a sister-in-law, Romelda (Lyle) Hanson, Moorhead, MN, a brother-in-law, Maynard (Liz) Braaten, Roseau, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Harrington.


Funeral Service: 11:00AM Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: Friday from 5-7PM at the church with a 7PM prayer service.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery.
