Watch Clarice's Funeral

Clarice M. Aanden, age 99, of Fertile, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.

Clarice Myrtle Fossum was born August 16, 1926, to Pedar and Clara (Moen) Fossum in rural Fertile on a small farm.  Growing up she attended county school.  After school she and her mom worked in Crookston, MN, in the winter months.  Clarice attended nursing school in the twin cities where she became a licensed LPN.  Upon obtaining her nursing license, she worked in Wadena , MN, followed by Fergus Falls, MN, where she met her husband, Thorvald Aanden. Thorvald and Clarice dated for a while then were united in marriage on July 20, 1952, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.  The newlyweds started their life together on the farm Clarice grew up on in rural Fertile.  They were blessed with two boys, Harry and Chester.  Clarice worked at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home as an LPN for 40 years.  She was a devoted mother and wife, caring for her mother and husband before their deaths.  She lived to care for and help others.  Clarice was a long time member of Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church where she was active in the Luther League and other church functions.

Clarice is survived by her sons, Harry (Penny) Aanden of Fertile and Chester Aanden of Cooperstown, ND; six grandchildren: Lonnie Aanden, Lanetta (Nathan) Tefelmeyer, Chez (Brianna) Aanden, AnnaDee Aanden, Jacob Aanden and Jenna Aanden; two great grandchildren, Kameron and Kensington Tefelmeyer.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedar and Clara; husband, Thorvald; infant brother, Harold; and many aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00am, with a visitation 1 hour prior, at the Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church in Mentor MN.  Burial will be in the Varnes Cemetery, rural Fertile.
