Starkey
Apr 25, 1943 — Nov 21, 2021
Mahnomen
Cheryl Starkey, age 78, of Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Cheryl was born April 25, 1943, to Gilman and Doris (Eklund) Lee in Ada, MN. She lived her entire life in the Mahnomen area. Cheryl attended Mahnomen School and graduated with the class of 1961. On September 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jack Starkey at St. Michael's Catholic Church. They were blessed with three sons, Bryan, Bruce and Jason.
Cheryl and Jack worked with Polaris Sales, Montgomery Wards catalog store and the JC Penney catalog store. They later retired on October 1, 2004. The couple really enjoyed their retirement years spending much of their time with loved ones.
Cheryl loved to bake, cook and entertain family and friends. She was always her best when she was hosting gatherings. Spending time with her three sons, three daughters-in-law and six grandchildren during the holidays were her greatest enjoyments in life. In her free time, Cheryl always made time for her walks, walking many miles over the years. Following Jack's death on July 11, 2016, Cheryl continued to make her home in Mahnomen, near family.
Cheryl is survived by her sons: Bryan (Kim Gassner) of New Prague, MN, Bruce (Shannon) and Jason (Tina), both of Mahnomen; her grandchildren: Sarah Starkey, Tyler (Brandie) Starkey, Joseph Starkey, Jack Starkey, Jon Starkey, and Will Starkey; brothers: Ronald (Nelda) Lee of Rosemount, MN, and Jim (Sharon) Lee of Mahnomen; sister, Cleone (Stanley) Heisler of Waubun, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, T. Gilman and Doris Lee; and brother, Dennis (Sandra) Lee.
Memorials preferred to St. Michael's Catholic Church or St. Michael's Cemetery.
Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, and CDC guidelines, social distancing will be practiced. Masks are strongly encouraged.
