Carilee "Chee-Chee" Jean Flikke, 70, of Fertile, MN, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN. Chee-Chee was born on June 10, 1944, in Brainerd, MN, to George and Palma (Horton) Liebeg. She attended school in Brainerd, where she graduated from High School. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa to work.
On June 17, 1968, Chee-Chee was married. They moved to Minot, ND, then to Fargo, ND and on to Tucson, AZ. In 1980, the family returned to rural Fertile and in 1981 moved into town. She owned and operated "Chee-Chee's Variety Store" and later "Chee-Chee's Ceramics". In the mid 1980s, Chee-Chee began attending Moorhead State University, Moorhead. She graduated with a Psychology degree in 1991. Following her schooling, she worked at group homes for the disabled. In the late 1990s Chee-Chee cared for her three older granddaughters - Nicole, Amanda, and Valerie. After Perkin was born, Chee-Chee also assisted with care. When Walmart opened in Crookston, MN, in 2007, Chee-Chee was one of the first employees hired. Many customers and fellow employees became friends with Chee-Chee over the years and she was employed there until the time of her death.
Chee-Chee was very creative. Ceramics, painting, writing, drawing and crocheting were her hobbies. Over the years, she wrote and published several books. She loved gardening, flowers, and plants of all kinds. Lilies and irises were her favorites. Education was a must for Chee-Chee and her family. Chee-Chee was an excellent cook and seemed to know just what to add to make a dish stand out. Chee-Chee loved celebrations and any excuse to have a party. Most of all, Chee-Chee dearly loved her children and grandchildren. May the memory of Chee-Chee remain with us forever.
Chee-Chee is survived by her children: Steven Liebeg, Duluth, MN; Jennifer Flikke, Fertile, and Susan (Craig) Gorder, Fertile; four granddaughters: Nicole Cortese, Amanda Liebeg, Valerie Liebeg, and Perkin Gorder; two sisters: Kaye (Robert) Liebeg, Brainerd, MN; and Karen (Mike) Mead, Ocala, FL; two brothers: Lawrence Liebeg, NV, and Gary Liebeg, AK; many nephews and nieces. Visitation: 3-5PM, Sunday, December 21, 2014 with a 5PM prayer service at the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile MN.
