Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Spielman, age 85, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in his home.

Charles Harley Spielman was born July 14, 1925, the son of Albert and Jenny (Burns) Spielman at Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley. Charlie received his education at Sunny Hill Country School near Twin Valley. As a young man, he farmed with his dad and brother, Harold until entering the United States Army, serving his country from 1950 to 1953. Charlie was stationed in Germany where he served in a MASH Unit. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Flom community where he continued to farm with his brother. On July 24, 1964, Charlie was united in marriage to Elenore Nyberg in Ada, Minnesota. The couple made their home on the family farm in Flom Township, where he had been a life long resident. It is here that they raised their three daughters, Karen, Kathy and Pam. Charlie and Elenore continued to live on the home farm to the present time.

Besides farming, Charlie's passion was being a gunsmith all of his life and was still active in gunsmithing. He worked in Law Enforcement for 30 years. During those years Charlie was employed as a part-time Police Officer for the City of Twin Valley, and later a Norman County Dispatcher and Deputy from 1977 until 1990. After his retirement, he was a court bailiff for five years. Charlie and Elenore enjoyed traveling throughout the United States over the years. He shared his knowledge of hunting and gun safety by being a Firearm Safety Instructor for over 50 years. Charlie was an active member of the Twin Valley American Legion, the Flom-Twin Valley VFW and the Wild Rice Conservation Club.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elenore "Punky" Spielman of Twin Valley, MN and daughters, Karen Spielman (Julie Peterson) of Superior, WI, Kathy Spielman of Moorhead, MN, Pam Banks (Larry Holbert) of Horseshoe, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 18th, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota. Officiating was Pastor Chad Peterson with Jolee Habedank serving as organist and Monica Winter, Karen Bergstrom and Mark Habedank providing special music. Pallbearers were Lyle Bakke, Billy Pagel, Wayne Christianson, Steve Albertson, Steve Kemper and Ordean Bentley. Honorary Pallbearers were Twin Valley American Legion, Flom-Twin Valley VFW and the Wild Rice Conservation Club. Military honors were provided by the Flom-Twin Valley VFW Post #3818 and the Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the Americn Legion.

Inurnment was in Twin Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery, Twin Valley, Minnesota.
