Charles "Chuck" Hamlin, age 59, of Fosston, MN, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Innovis Health Systems in Fargo, ND.
Charles Devern Hamlin was born on October 3, 1949 in White Earth, MN, to Solomen and Dorothy (Annawaush) Hamlin. He grew up in the Lengby, MN, area and attended school in Fosston. Following his high school years, Chuck entered the United States Army, serving in Germany. In 1970, Chuck was united in marriage to Melody LaFriniere. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN, and was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Christa. Chuck later lived in Utah and California and had settled in the Lengby area.
Chuck was a real outdoorsman. He loved hunting, spearing and fishing, especially on the Wild Rice River. Many hours were spent logging, leeching and ricing. Chuck also enjoyed watching old Westerns and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
Chuck is lovingly survived by his daughter, Christa Hamlin and her daughter, Kalen, of Burnsville, MN; four sisters: Rosella Sovick of Warroad, MN, Beverly Hamlin of Bagley, MN, Laura Spicer of Fosston, MN, and Georgette (David) Christenson of Apple Valley, MN; one brother, Rocky (Becky) Hamlin of Lengby and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Olive Folstrom and Ruth Larson; and one nephew, Rodney Hamlin.
Traditional Native American Funeral Services were held Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11 am at the Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, MN. A wake began Thursday, January 1st at 5 pm and went until the time of the funeral at the sports complex. Services were led by Sunfish and music was provided by the Eagle Spirit Drum. Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Klicker, Jr., Kenny Gordon, Suzy Ortley, Joe Goulet, and Terry Lew. Honorary bearers were George Annawaush, Bert LaFriniere, Leo Roy, Jr., and Rocky Hamlin.
