Charles Donner's Obituary
Charles Donner, age 82, of Ulen, Minnesota, formerly Ogema, Minnesota, died Monday, July 16, 2007, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Charles E. Donner was born June 1, 1925, the son of Charles and Bertha (Bullert) Donner near Ogema. He was raised on a farm west of Ogema and attended country school in that area. As a young man, Charlie drove gravel truck and helped with the construction of the American Crystal Sugar Plant in Moorhead, Minnesota. Besides farming, Charlie also worked 17 campaigns at American Crystal. On April 6, 1947, Charlie was united in marriage to Ardyce Dorseth at the Aspelund Lutheran Church at Flom, Minnesota. The couple made their home on their farm near Ogema. Charlie operated their farm for over 40 years. Charlie and Ardyce moved to Cedar Crest Resort on White Earth Lake after retirement where they lived for over 20 years. A year and a half ago, Charlie and Ardyce moved into the Northern Lights Apartments. Ardyce died April 1st, 2006. Charlie continued to make his home there until the time of his death.
Charlie enjoyed the outdoors and was known as an avid fisherman. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren as well as visiting with family and friends.
Charlie is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Gary) Erickson of Ogema, MN and Cynthia DeGroat of Foley, MN; a brother Oliver (Emily) of Ogema, MN; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007, at 1:00 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogema, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Friday. Officiating will be Pastor Del Stohs with Sara Bauck serving as organist and Monica Winter serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Jamie Erickson, Justin Erickson, Jeremy DeGroat, Kyle Erickson, Tom Havekamp and Lloyd Jirava. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-granddaughters, Annie Erickson, Emma DeGroat and Christina DeGroat
Interment will be in the Ogema Community Cemetery, Ogema, Minnesota.
