Caroline C. Rolland, 85, of Fertile, MN, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home after a long battle with dementia.

Caroline grew up on a farm near Fertile, the beloved daughter of William (Bill) and Mildred (Quant) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed at Varnes Lutheran Church in rural Fertile.

After graduating from Fertile High School, Caroline married Arthur (Art) Michaels. Together they had two sons, Jeffrey and Calvin. In 1966, Caroline and her boys moved to North Dakota where she worked as an office assistant and later for North Dakota Public Health. Around this time, she also started her own ceramics studio and enjoyed teaching ceramic classes.

Caroline and her sons later returned to Fertile, where the boys attended and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School.

In 1994, Caroline worked with her sister Linda and brother-in-law Wes Olson to start Eats-N-Antiques, formerly Fertile Rec. After retiring from the café, Caroline worked at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, where she found great fulfillment.

Caroline was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia as well as other collectibles such as salt dips, stamp collecting, and a variety of other things throughout the years.

In 2006, she married Robert (Bob) Rolland and cherished sharing their lives together until his passing in 2019.

Caroline's greatest joy was her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and enjoyed watching grow up. She was proud to see them marry and start families of their own. Although dementia somewhat diminished her ability to spend quality time with her six precious great-grandchildren, her love for them remained strong.

Caroline is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Michaels, Oakdale, MN, and Calvin Michaels, Thief River Falls, MN; grandson, Jordan (Samantha) Michaels; granddaughter, Sarah (Jesse) Castle, Fargo, ND; 6 great-grandchildren, sister, Linda (Wes) Olson, Fertile, MN; niece, Charlene (George) Zocher, Fertile, MN; nephew, Chad Olson, Fertile, MN; and a great-nephew and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mildred; and husband, Robert Rolland.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the funeral service at the funeral home.

Interment: Concordia South Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
