Carole J. Swenson, "Misko Anang Makwa Ikwe" Red Star Bear Woman, age 61, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Health Systems in Fargo, ND.
Carole Jean McKenzie was born
February 6, 1951 in White Earth, MN, to William and Dorsey McKenzie. She grew up in the Lengby, MN, area and attended grade school at the Pine Bend Mission. Carole graduated with the class of 1969 from Fosston High School. Following graduation, she furthered her education at Thief River Technical College, where she received her Secretarial Degree. While in Thief River Falls, Carole married John Swenson. They later divorced and Carole met Robert Blue. Together they made their home in Bagley, MN, for a time before returning to the Lengby area. To this union three children were born: Brian, Rita and Amy. For many years, Carole worked at the Shooting Star Casino in general maintenance. In 2005, her failing health caused her to retire early. She has made her home with her daughter, Amy and her family, in Naytahwaush since that time.
With her kind heart and friendly, fun loving attitude, Carole enjoyed the many friendships she formed over the years. She also like fishing, gardening, playing Keno and her Monday "Promos" at the casino. Carole loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
Carole is survived by her children: Brian (Lisa Basswood) Swenson, Lengby, Rita (Jamie Auginaush) Swenson, Pine Bend, MN, and Amy (Justin) Littlewolf, Naytahwaush; step-son, Robert (Janda) Blue, Farmington, MN; step-daughter, Theresa Blue, Mahnomen; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl Hodgkins, Mahnomen. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; longtime companion and father of her children, Robert Blue; two unborn children; two brothers, Alex McKenzie and Skip McKenzie and special friend, Tony Dvorak.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11 am at the Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation will begin Thursday, October 11th at the Sports Complex at 5 pm and continue until the time of the funeral on Friday. A Prayer Service will be held Thursday at 6 pm.
Burial will be in the Lengby City Cemetery, Lengby, MN.
