Carol Thompson, age 71, of Dilworth, Minnesota, formerly Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in MeritCare Health System, Fargo, North Dakota.

Carol Ann Bronken was born February 17, 1938, the daughter of Seawell and Dorothy (McArther) Bronken in Fairbault, Minnesota. She moved with her family to live near Mahnomen, Minnesota, where she was raised and attended school. As a young lady, Carol worked as a waitress at a café in Mahnomen for a few years. On August 16, 1956, Carol was united in marriage to Duane Thompson in Mahnomen. The couple made their home near Twin Valley for a short time. While Duane was serving his country in the United States Army, he was stationed at the military base in El Paso, Texas, where they made their home. After his discharge, Duane and Carol returned to Twin Valley where they raised their family. Carol was employed at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in Twin Valley for many years, for a short time at the Twin Valley High School as well as doing in-home health care. Duane died August 19, 1985. Carol retired in the mid 1990's due to her health. She moved to Moorhead about seven years ago, and then a year and a half ago, Carol became a resident of the Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth where she lived until the time of her death.

Carol's favorite past times included reading and listening to music, but the time she treasured most, was the time she spent with her family.

Carol is survived by five daughters, Kathleen (Douglas) Ellingson, Galesburg, ND, Theresa Tjon (Roger Wallgren), Moorhead, MN Beverly (Bradley) Bollinger, Wahpeton, ND, Suzanne Horn, Hawley, MN and Angela Thompson, Moorhead, MN; three sons, DuWayne (Minnie) Thompson, Crookston, MN, Robert (Verna) Thompson, Twin Valley, MN and Gene (Melinda) Thompson, Twin Valley, MN; a sister, Patricia (John) Weber of Culver, MN; 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant brother.

Carol will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services was held on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth. Visitation was Friday, November 27 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Burial was in Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley at 1:00 PM Saturday.
