Watch Carol's Funeral Mass

Carol Johnson, age 90 of Moorhead, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Sanford's Hospice House in Fargo, ND.

Carol Jean Bellefeuille was born in White Earth, MN, on August 19, 1932, the daughter of Emmanuel and Cora (Christianson) Bellefeuille.  She grew up and attended school in Mahnomen.  Following her graduation with the Class of 1950, Carol entered the workforce doing secretarial work.  She met the love of her life, Keith Johnson and the two were united in marriage on June 9, 1952, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen.  Shortly thereafter, Keith was drafted into the US Army, where they were stationed in Oklahoma.  Upon his discharge, the young couple returned to the Moorhead area, then lived a short time at Holdingford, MN, before settling in Mahnomen.  Keith and Carol lovingly raised their five children in Mahnomen where they continued to make their home together even after Keith's retirement.  Keith passed away in December of 2010, and Carol remained in their home until 2013, when she moved to Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead.  More recently, she had made her home at Eventide Nursing Home since 2018.

Over the years, Carol was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Family was first and foremost for Carol and she treasured all of them, especially time with all the grandchildren.  Her usual big smile became even bigger when the grandkids were around.  Carol was a great cook and baker with some of her specialties being cinnamon rolls and dumpling soup.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, bowling, and golfing.  Carol also liked to watch golf on television and was both a Minnesota Vikings fan and a NDSU Bison fan.  She was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the ladies aid group.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by two sons, Greg (Kelley) Johnson and Gary (Caroline) Johnson, both of Fargo, ND; three daughters: Pamela (Dan) Gunderson of Fertile, MN, Nancy (Robert) Johnson of Prior Lake, MN, and Stacy (Jon) Reitz of Waleska, GA; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Duane (Zelda) Bellefeuille of Detroit Lakes, MN, Phillip Bellefeuille of Callaway, MN, Steve (Judy) Bellefeuille of St. Michael, MN; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her parents; a son-in-law, Bruce Monson; and her sister, Colleen Okerson.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 30, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
