Carol Halvorson, 65, Hendrum, MN died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at her home under the care of Hospice and her family. Carol Irene Brakob was born July 23, 1951 in Ada, MN the daughter of Gust and Irene (Thoreson) Brakob. She grew up northeast of Twin Valley, MN with her family, and attended school in Twin Valley. Carol graduated high school with the class of 1969. She later attended Moorhead Technical College for 2 years where she majored in accounting. Carol was employed by the Restad Brothers near Hendrum most of her working career. She was active in the farming and cattle operation, a job she truly loved. On November 19, 1983 Carol and Eldon Halvorson were united in marriage in Mahnomen, MN, and they made their home in Twin Valley. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Terry and Katie. The couple later divorced, and Carol moved to the Hendrum community with her children where she continued to work for Gilmore Restad on his farm up until his passing. Carol went on to take over on the farm, later renting out the farm land. She continued to raise cattle even as her health began to fail. Carol was able to remain in her home until death due to the tender care she received by Hans Brakob, Terry Halvorson, and Jenna Stelter. Carol loved the farm life and working with all animals, especially her cows and horses. Never afraid of work, she could outwork most men and always had another project to do. She was known for being a bit stubborn and knowing how she wanted things done. She would share anything she had to help someone out that was in need, no questions asked. Carol was a true cowgirl, with her horses, love of John Wayne movies and anything western, which could be imminently seen by stepping into her home. Carol is survived by her two children, Terry (Lisa) Halvorson and Katie Halvorson all of Hendrum; four grandchildren, Virginia Elizondo, Constance, Charlotte, and Catarina Halvorson; four sisters, Carolyn Halvorson, Mandan, ND, Colleen Boe, Ada, MN, Annie (Curtis) Pribula, Minneapolis, MN, and Doris Volker, Crookston, MN; four brothers, Lyle (Margaret) Brakob, Newport Beach, CA, Ed ( Kathy) Brakob, Chesapeake, VA, Hans Brakob, Rio Dosa, NM, and Herman (Colleen) Brakob, Plymouth, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Art, and one nephew, Edward Brakob Jr. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley, MN. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum, MN with Pastor Lori Pankratz officiating.
