Rev. Calvin Clark, age 78 of Lengby, MN, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at First Care Medical Services in Fosston, MN.
Calvin Clark was born June 5, 1929, in White Earth, MN, the son of Angus and Clara (Sargent) Clark. He was raised in White Earth and attended school there. As a young man he began working as a lumberjack with his father until 1952 when Calvin joined the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to the White Earth area to continue working with his father. On March 13, 1954, Calvin was united in marriage to Darlene Bunker in Naytahwaush, MN. Calvin attended school at Thief River Falls Technical College studying auto mechanics. The couple then moved to St. Paul, MN, where Calvin worked as a transmission supervisor at Norm's Garage. He later worked as a mechanic for Stewart Sandwich Company servicing semi's and large vehicles. Calvin studied accounting at Global College in St. Paul and then joined the Baptist Theological Seminary. He graduated from Seminary, as a Pastor, in 1978. He began his ministry in Minneapolis, working with the Troy McCalister Indian Outreach Church Building Ministry. He also reached many lost souls through his street ministry in the Twin Cities. After living in the metro area for 27 years, they were called to the Pine Bend United Methodist Church and worked under the leadership of the United Methodist Council or Churches. The couple lived in Lengby and faithfully served the Pine Bend Church for over 13 years before retirement. He and Darlene continued to make their home in Lengby where Calvin served the Baptist Church and "the Church on the Way."
Calvin was truly dedicated to the Lord and his Christian faith. Through the years he spread God's Word by witnessing door to door, visiting elders and traveling to nursing homes. Calvin and Darlene had a singing ministry and provided music at many churches and events. They also were licensed to visit area prisons offering counseling and scripture to those in need. Calvin's true love was his family and he treasured the time spent with each of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed family sing-a-longs, playing the guitar, fishing and hunting in his spare time. He was involved in the community and the White Earth Tribe in various ways; even running for Tribal office with the slogan "No More Secrets." Calvin's life truly reflected his passion for preaching and teaching about the Salvation. He will be remembered by all whom he touched.
