Calmer E. Pederson, Gary, MN, died peacefully in the arms of Jesus at the age of 91 on Thursday, July 10, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Calmer, the son of Christina (Sagness) and Simen Pederson, was born on September 18, 1916 in York, North Dakota, the 11th of 14 children.
Since 1943, he farmed and lived in Waukon Township, where he was a member on the township board. He was also a charter member of the Twin Valley Riders Club.
Calmer married Olive Martel on February 15, 1943 and together they had five children: LaVonne (Ron) Voltz, Mahnomen, MN, Ken (Pauline) Pederson, Hawley, MN, Arlin Pederson, Mahnomen, MN, Arvid Pederson, Ada, MN, and LuAnne (Steve) Basney, Cokato, MN. Calmer married Frances Johnson on September 13, 1976.
In his spare time, Calmer enjoyed hunting and fishing – and in his younger years he spent many hours snowmobiling with family and friends. Known for his carpentry and woodworking skills, Calmer made beautiful diamond willow furniture and canes.
Calmer is survived by his children; wife, Frances of Mahnomen; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, two step-daughters, Patty (Charles) Brenemuhl, Kathy (Steve) Kangas; one step-son, Roger (Kari) Johnson; 14 step-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elvina Anderson and Hilda Andersen; and several nieces and nephews.
Calmer was preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings; one granddaughter, Michelle; step-daughter, Peggy Potter and step-grandson, Ryan Potter.
Funeral Services will take place on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. at Anderson ~ Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN.
Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Mahnomen.
