Dr. Byron Kinkade

Dr. Byron R. Kinkade, 89, Ada, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Bridges Care Community, Ada, Minnesota.

Byron Robert Kinkade, "By" was born February 25, 1921, in Buckhorn, KY, the son of Rev. Robert and Dorothy (Beitler) Kinkade. He graduated from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) School of Medicine, and did his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and his pediatric residency in Minot, ND. He served in the Medic Corp of the United States Army during World War II. Byron was united in marriage to Mary Deisler on August 13, 1947, in Mansfield, OH.

Dr. Kinkade was a private practice physician in Ada for more than 37 years before he retired in 1984. He was past-president of the Northwest Medical Association, a member of the American Medical Association, Board of Trustees for Faith United Church, and Ada School Board.

Byron enjoyed sharing his garden produce with others, cooking gourmet meals for family and friends, relaxing at the lake, listening to classical music, attending the opera, playing Bridge, watching sports on TV, collecting stamps, solving crossword puzzles, bird watching, volunteering at Tamarac Wildlife Refuge, traveling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. The life of a family physician in a small town comes with great sacrifice for his own time and that of his family, yet he loved his profession.  Dr. K. was a healer of both body and mind. He impacted many people's lives during his practice. He fixed broken bones, delivered generations of babies and soothed, counseled and genuinely cared for his patients. How do you put into words the impact he had on people's lives?    By was a loving physician, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was dearly loved and will be missed by many. For a life well-lived . . . Bravo!

Dr. Kinkade is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary, his children: Bob (Mindy) Kinkade, Ada; Peter Kinkade, Santa Margarita, CA; Mary Lou (Dwight) Heitman, Ada; Polly (Tim) Wagner, Ada; 16 grandchildren: Ali Kinkade, Denver, CO, Tyler Kinkade, Fargo, ND, Greyson Kinkade, Denver, CO, Sawyer Kinkade, Ada, Livi Kinkade, Ada; Jono Kinkade, San Luis Obispo, CA, Ryan Kinkade, San Francisco, CA; Chandra (Kevin) Ackley, Oxford, Ohio; Marissa (Patrick) Sheehan, Richmond, VA; Jared Heitman, Ada; Carly Wagner, Fargo, ND; Jenna (Ruben) Alvarez, Northfield, MN; Tim Wagner, Northfield, MN; Sarah Wagner, Peter Wagner, Nicholas Wagner, all of Ada, and 2 great-grandchildren, Harper Sheehan and Kade Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edwin, one sister, Edith Renslo, his son, Joby (Jonathan Byron), and his daughter-in-law, Anne McMahon.

Memorial Service: 2PM, Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Friday from 4-7PM with a 7PM prayer service at the church.

Interment: Ada City Cemetery, Ada, MN.
