Byron "Buddy" Braseth, age 87, of Ulen, MN died Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Sanford Health System, Fargo.
Byron James Braseth was born March 15, 1925 the son of Oscar and Stella (Amundson) Braseth near Ulen. Buddy was raised on the family farm near Ulen and attended country school in that area, graduating from Ulen High School with the class of 1943. In 1944, Buddy entered the United States Navy where he served his country as part of the crew of the USS Biloxi. Upon his honorable discharge, Buddy came back to Ulen and farmed with his father. On October 28, 1950, Buddy was united in marriage to Loretta Matson at the Jevnaker parsonage near Borup, MN. The couple made their home on a farm west of Ulen where they raised their family. In 1980 they moved into Ulen to make their home. Buddy retired from farming in 1987 and for several years after that he worked part time for Syre Fertilizer.
When Buddy was younger he enjoyed hunting. Buddy loved to drive and see the country. Among his fondest memories are the times he could spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a life member of the Ulen VFW, where he was past commander, former member of the Ulen American Legion and past chairman of the Ulen School Board.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Loretta, Ulen; a son, James (Kathy) Braseth, Fargo, ND; a daughter, Janie (Joel) Mattson, Lake Park, MN; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Owen (Darlene) Braseth and a sister-in-law, Orpha Braseth all of Ulen and several nieces and nephews.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Schuyler.
Memorial Services were held Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. A time of gathering was Monday, December 3rd from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Officiating was Pastors Mike Rueckert and Mark Askelson. Susan Green and Carol Lockhart served as organist and pianist with Susan Green serving as vocalist. Honorary urnbearers were all of Buddy's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Military rites were provided by the Ulen VFW Post #5115 and the Ulen American Legion and the MN Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Inurnment was in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
